9 Things NOT to Do In 9 Nights of Navratri

The auspicious festival of Navratri is around the corner and it is time for you to start getting ready for the festival. In general, the festival of Navratri is full of positivity, fun, and warmth. However, like all holy festivals, Navratri too has a certain set of guidelines or rules. Always remember to stick to these rules because of these rules in some way or the other help you to experience the essence of the festival.
1.    Do not indulge in act of cutting your hair as it will tend to displease the goddess. However, a few exceptions are allowed with respect to shaving/ trimming beard when it comes to the point of going out to fulfill your professional commitments.
2.    Prepare only veg food in the houses. Also, make it a point to avoid the intake of Ginger and Garlic in your diet. On the other hand, Alcohol and Non-Veg food are completely out of limits during these particular days
3.    Do not eat food as you do on all other days. In other words, it is very important that you reduce the food intake. In case, if you are a person who cannot fast, then try reducing food intake by eating small portions of food throughout the day.
4.    It is important that you refrain from sexual activity during this period. In case, people do indulge in sexual activity, it is important that they must practice safer sex.
5.    Do not bring in the slippers or shoes which you wear outside into the house. Also, do not wear slippers as long as you are inside the house. In short, leather items are prohibited.
6.    Do not indulge in the practice of uttering lies or foul language. It is important for you as a worshipper to respect the sanctity of these days and stay truthful to your faith.
7.    Since, it is the time of fasting, refrain from using excessive spices in your food intake. Hence, put away your turmeric, cumin, and coriander boxes for nine days. However, one can use chilli powder.
8.    Also, do not sleep during the afternoon time of the day as it is considered inauspicious.
9.    For health reasons, it is a must to avoid fried food items. Stick to the classic vegetarian home food supplemented with fruits. Along with enjoyment of festival, it is important that you take good care of your health.
